Around Easter I had stopped receiving my statutory maternity pay and it sucked. I needed a fun Easter gifting solution that was kind to my purse. Read on to find out how to make these cute Easter gifts that won’t break the bank and will get your creative juices flowing!
Easter is one of those times of year that can become unnecessarily expensive very quickly. Don’t get me wrong, I love an Easter Egg as much as the next Mama but it sometimes seems a little bit silly to be exchanging almost identical eggs with loved ones. What’s more, the packaging on Easter Eggs, although improving, tends to be excessive and unnecessary. It isn’t very sustainable.
This year, I decided to do something different and made this warren of easter bunnies as an alternative sweet treat. They were really simple and cost effective to make.
You will need:
Piping Bags
Pipe cleaners
A sharpie or other permanent marker
Sweets
Stick on eyes (I found mine in Poundland)
Hot Glue Gun
Instructions:
Step 1: Start by drawing a nose and rabbit whiskers on your piping bag about two thirds of the way down. You need to do this far enough down so that it is still visible when you tie up the top of the bag to make the bunny ears.Step 2: Fill your bag with sweets of your choice up to the nose and whiskers, leaving space to tie up the bag.Step 3: Take two different coloured pipe cleaners. Hold them parallel to one another. Twist twice in the centre. so they are attached to one another. Take the colour pipe cleaner you would like for the outside of the ears and bend the ends in towards the centre. Ensure you leave about 3cm surplus from either end, then wrap it around the centre. Do the same with the pipe cleaner you are using for the inside of the ear just making sure that the loop formed is smaller. Re-shape the loops to give the illusion of bunny ears!Step 4: Finally, secure the ears to the piping bag by wrapping the surplus pipe cleaner around the top of the filled piping bag. Use a hot glue gun to stick on two wobbly eyes and voila – HOPPY EASTER!
